Those old photos are fading. Save them before they're gone.

Millions of family photos are trapped on fading slides and negatives that nobody can see anymore. A small device is quietly changing that, no computer, no software, and no help from the kids required.

Those images are not waiting patiently for you. They are on a clock.

Written by Charlotte

I started this because I watched too many families lose photos they thought they had forever.

You know the box. Maybe it’s in a closet, maybe up in the attic. Hundreds of old slides and negatives, decades of birthdays, weddings, and faces you’d know anywhere, and no way to actually see a single one of them.

Here’s the part nobody tells you. Those photos aren’t waiting patiently for you. They’re fading, a little more every year, and once color film starts to go, there’s no getting it back.

Old film does not fade slowly. It fades, then it's gone.

Color slides and negatives are made of dye and acetate, and both break down with age. The reds go first, then the whole image drifts and yellows. On some film a chemical process called vinegar syndrome sets in, and once it starts, it cannot be reversed. The photo you could have saved this year may not be savable next year.

And the usual ways of saving them all have a catch:

Mail-in services put your only copies in a stranger’s hands. You box up irreplaceable originals, hand them to a courier, and hope. If they are lost, there is no second set.

Photo shops charge by the slide. A few boxes can quietly turn into hundreds of dollars, and you still have to haul everything there and back.

Computer scanners need software, cables, and patience. Most people set them up once, get frustrated, and the scanner ends up in a drawer next to the film.

Phone photos of slides look like exactly what they are: a photo of a photo. Dim, warped, not worth keeping.

So the boxes sit. And the clock keeps running.

Then you find out there's another way

It isn’t a service. It isn’t software. It’s a small standalone scanner that does the whole job by itself, with a screen built right into it. No computer. No apps. Nothing gets sent anywhere.

image2

You slide a negative or a mounted slide into the holder and press one button. About 3 seconds later, the photo is right there on the screen. Like it, it saves. Don’t, you re-scan. That’s the entire learning curve.

You could get through a full shoebox in an afternoon, in front of the TV, at your own table. The faded ones come back clearer than you’d expect. Nothing leaves the house, nothing goes in the mail, and your only copies stay your only copies, now safely digital too.

It’s called Vuslen Rewind.

Why families are choosing Rewind

Everything you need, one box.
Rewind comes with the holders for 35mm and 135mm slides and negatives, so your whole collection gets saved. No extra parts to hunt down, no second purchase.

Completely standalone.
No computer, no software, no cables to a PC. A built-in 2.4-inch color screen shows each photo in about 3 seconds. Plug it into the wall and start.

Your originals never leave home.
Nothing goes in the mail. Nothing is handed to a stranger. Every scan happens at your own table.

But is it safe for fragile, decades-old film?

This was the one thing that worried people most. It shouldn’t.

Non-Contact Scanning

The first rule of preservation is simple: never put the original at risk. Rewind scans without contact. Your slide or negative passes over the light and sensor, so the film is never pressed, scratched, or altered. It comes out exactly as it went in, only now it is digital.

Originals Stay Home

Specialists avoid shipping irreplaceable originals whenever they can. With Rewind, nothing goes in the mail and nothing is handed to a stranger. Every scan happens at your own table, so your only copies stay exactly where you can see them.

A Format That Lasts

Every scan saves as a standard JPEG, the universal, non-proprietary format that opens on any phone, computer, or printer today and for years to come. No locked files, no special software, nothing that traps your memories on one device.

So why not just send them to a shop?

It’s worth seeing how the three usual options actually stack up.

The questions people ask us most

Will this damage my original slides or film?
No. The scanning process is completely non-invasive. Your film simply passes through a light source and sensor—nothing touches or alters the original. We recommend using the included cleaning brush to remove dust before scanning for the best results.
Will this work with very old or faded film?
Yes. Vuslen Rewind has built-in auto-rescue technology with backlight compensation and automatic color correction specifically designed for aged, faded film. Even slides from the 1970s-80s that look too dark or yellowed can be salvaged. You'll be surprised how well old film comes back.
What resolution does it scan at / What's the DPI?
Vuslen Rewind scans at 5MP CMOS, 1800 dpi native (1824 x 2736), interpolates up to 10MP (2588 x 3888), making it perfect for standard photo printing!
Is it compatible with Mac / Windows?
Yes absolutely! All scans are saved as standard JPEG files which work perfectly on both Mac and Windows computers straight away with no special software required. You can transfer files to your Mac or Windows PC in two easy ways:

1. Remove the SD card and insert it directly into your computer's SD card slot

2. Keep the SD card in the device, connect via USB, select USB MSDC on the device, and it appears on your computer just like a USB drive — easy to drag and drop your files across!
Do I need to buy any accessories separately?
No. Vuslen Rewind includes everything you need: the scanner, film holders for different formats, all necessary cables, a cleaning brush, and a detailed manual. Unlike other scanners that require separate accessory purchases, this is a complete kit.
What film formats does Vuslen Rewind support?
Rewind scans 35mm and 135mm slides and negatives, in color, black and white, positive and negative. Load a slide or a negative strip into the included holder, press one button, and it's digitized.
Can it scan printed photographs?
Vuslen Rewind is primarily designed for scanning 35mm film negatives and slides. However, it can also scan printed photos as long as they fit within the 35mm frame dimensions! For larger album photos a flatbed photo scanner would be the better option.
How long does it take to scan each photo?
Each photo takes approximately 3 seconds to scan. You'll see the image appear on the built-in screen instantly, and it automatically saves to your SD card. Most people can scan 50-100 slides in an hour while watching TV or relaxing.
Does it come with built-in storage, or do I need an SD card?
Vuslen Rewind includes 128MB of built-in internal memory, which can hold approximately 25-30 scanned photos. For larger collections, you can use an SD card (512MB to 32GB) for expanded storage. SD cards are affordable and widely available, or you can add one at checkout for convenience.
How large are the scanned files / How many scans fit on an SD card?
Each scan is approximately 2-3MB as a JPEG file. A 32GB SD card will comfortably hold thousands of scans — easily enough for most collections! We offer SD cards directly in our store if you need one.
What file format are scans saved in?
All scans are saved as JPEG files — universally compatible with any device, computer, or printer straight away with no special software needed!
Can I share the digital files easily?
Yes. Scanned photos save as standard JPEG files on your SD card. You can transfer them to your computer using the included USB cable, text them to family, email them, upload to social media, or use them to create photo books. The files work with any device or photo service.
Can I see the photos on my TV?
Yes. Vuslen Rewind includes a TV cable that allows you to connect it to a TV. This is great for viewing scanned photos with family or previewing your scanning work on a larger screen.
What's your return policy?
We offer a 90-day money-back guarantee. If Vuslen Rewind doesn't work for you or your film for any reason, return it within 90 days for a refund.
What's the warranty coverage?
Vuslen Rewind comes with a 1-year manufacturer's warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship.
